Two sloth bear cubs recovered in Andhra

NEW DELHI : Two sloth bear cubs both 12 under  weeks of age, were recovered from a poacher in Andhra Pradesh’s Karim Nagara  district on Saturday. The operation was conducted by flying squads of Andhra Pradesh Forest Department and Wildlife SOS, an NGO. This is the first time a sloth bear as been rescued this year. The last incident of bear rescue was in December 2007 with the Orissa Forest Department Seizing six weeks old –sloth bear cub. Sloth bear is an endangered animal protected under schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act. It is found mainly in the Himalayan foothills and around forest in Karnataka and central India.
