2 held with 250 g of snake venom

Two person were arrested for allegedly possessing 250g of deadly snake poison.

Officials said that a call came at around 4:45pm to Maurya Nagar police station saying that two person’s wre carrying the substance. “Soon after this information, officials rushed to the spot and conducted a raid. The accused were later banned,” said Mr. Rohit Singh, an activist of the NGO, wildlife SOS.

“We tried to implicate the two under section 49 A of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, which prohibits articled made from any part of the scheduled animals, but the exceptions are snake venom and peacock feathers. But they have been now implicated under section 280 of IP,” said MR Singh.

Approximately 0.4g of venom is recovered from a single snake, “This implies that they would have caught around 1000 snakes, to get 250g of venom. The venom is mainly used for drugs,” Mr Singh said. Both of them will be produced in the court tomorrow, said a police official:
