Jackal found trapped in heart of city

A FULL GROWN   jackal was found trapped between two generator sets behind Regal Theater in Connaught place on Wednesday afternoon.

The animal caused quite a panic among people who tried to rescue it at first thinking it was a dog. An attendant from a nearby parking lot identified the animals as a jackal.

The generators are kept in a dingy alley behind Regal theaters an rivoli theaters, and share space with parked vehicles, garbage bins and other generators. The Regal Cinema building also has doors opening into this alley.

“God knows how it came here. A first we wanted to rescue it but what made us suspicious was the sound it was making. It was not exactly howling, but we instantly knew it was not a dog,” said Rajesh Kumar, who works as the driver for a shop owners there.

The police were called, and they in turn informed NGO Wildlife SOS,

Which are carried out the rescue “Like the callers themselves, we also suspected that they were mistaking a dog for a Jackal because Connaught Place is not exactly the kind of place once would expect to find a jackal,” said Kartick satyanarayan, head of the NGO.
